A new game room in town is
definitely a must-see if you are looking for thrilling things to do in West Orange today. You are sure to take home
incredible and cherished moments as you, your family, and your friends have
tons of fun cracking codes and solving puzzles in this time-sensitive game
plan.
Escape Goat, the latest game
room craze in Winter Garden that opened on May 19, offers not only an amazing
adventure with your friends, but also a remarkable and unforgettable experience
with your loved ones as you search for other ways to celebrate special family events. While holding family gatherings
is still a popular way to make wonderful memories, putting this “twist” on your
family celebrations is an excellent way to encourage individual growth and
teamwork at the same time.
The Family behind the Rooms
Couple Dawn and Dave
Aubertin moved to Central Florida a few years ago after living in Farmington,
Missouri for 20 years. They moved with
their daughter Breann. While living in
Missouri, the Aubertins were very active members of theater groups to the point
that they themselves hosted and organized mystery parties and scavenger
hunts. The couple encouraged their
children to pursue their love for theater wherever life takes them. They later found themselves staying in Orange
County, a place that is well-known as one of the country’s theatrical centers.
The Aubertins have never
heard about Escape Room until they moved to Florida. It was the daughter Breann and Javier
Sepulveda who first experienced the thrill and fun of it. The latter could not take their minds off
their great experience that they told the Aubertin couple that they had to do
it – to create an escape room adventure of their own. And that is exactly what they did.
The Creation
This team immediately
planned and constructed their escape rooms in Winter Garden, which is now known
as Escape Goat. According to Dave,
almost everything in the rooms was handmade.
Dave was in charge of building the walls and the shelves, including the
team’s first prop – a dartboard, since he had a background in construction. On the other hand, Javier contributed his
skills and know-hows regarding technological gadgets and puzzles.
The Escape Goat Rooms
The Winter Garden venue
offers two rooms for a smaller group and three rooms for larger ones. A total
of five escape rooms await excited guests as they go through this delightful
experience. The larger rooms have three
different themes: Camp Echo, Area 51, and 221B: The Study Area.
Camp Echo provides that
spooky campfire feel wherein the players get to hear about Zilla, an evil
spirit that is threatening to devastate and bring destruction to the camp. The goal of the players is to expel and cast
the spirit out before it succeeds in its devastating intent. Although this is a less technical room,
players are faced with more activities and challenges. The ambiance of this room is more like that
of a Scooby-doo episode than that of a scary movie.
If you want to be engaged in
a more technical room, you will encounter a wide range of gadgets in 221B. It is Escape Goat’s version of a Sherlock
room. Area 51, another fun-filled room
for a bigger group, is underway and will be testing the players’ abilities in
problem-solving this June.
To make the challenges even
more amusing and realistic, there are actors who mingle with the players while
the game is on-going. A camp counselor
at Camp Echo and a chauffeur at 221B willingly give tips and clues when asked
by enthusiastic participants. These
actors are part of the story and can give important clues in solving the
challenges.
Escape Tips and Guidelines
The friendly staff disclosed
some escape room tips to potential players and adventure-seekers. Everything you need to solve the challenge
would be inside the room. Great findings
await you and your team under, around, or inside the props, excluding glued
items and the television. Do not
disqualify the possibility of hidden passages.
Be logical; do not think too much.
Most importantly, make it a point to share your discovery; teamwork is
an integral part of this experience.
If you are afraid of being
locked in a room, you have nothing to fear at Escape Goat. The doors may be shut, but that does not mean
they are locked. Additionally, while
there are many objectives that you need to work on, unlocking of the door is
not one of them. Eager participants
should arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled game for briefing. Another 15 minutes will be allotted for
debriefing after the game. This is also
the time for capturing this special moment through picture-taking. Escape Goat accepts reservations for team
buildings and other special or corporate events.
Why “Escape Goat”
The team thought that it
would be an amusing play on words to settle for Escape Goat’s present business
name. They also included an image of a
goat in every room for logo and branding purposes. A more practical reason for using this is
that according to Dave, some confused players might just be tempted to put the
blame on someone else for their defeat, thus, the business name Escape Goat.
