West Orange Events Calendar for August 2016
There are a lot of exciting
things to do in West Orange today since August is packed with a lot of
activities that you wouldn’t want to miss. Whether you are looking for
something about food, games, even in the performing arts, West Orange is surely
the place to be. Below are some of the
events you would want to note as you look forward to sweet and fun moments with
your friends and family this coming month.
FOOD
Food Truck & Movie In
The Park
If you love to bond over a
delicious meal and a good movie, you may head over to Bill Breeze Park &
Gazebo on August 19. You can try different sorts of food from the different
food trucks from 6:00PM to 9:00PM. Enjoy
watching Zootopia at 8:30PM for free as you munch on your meals. This is
perfect for those looking for something sweet and simple.
FAMILY
Family Fest
A Family Fest will be held
at Downtown Ocoee on August 27 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM. The food, shopping,
music, dancing, games, and face painting are some of the activities that await
participants who are both young and young at heart. Whether you are up for a
good snack, a little shopping, or just the sight of many happy faces, there
will be something for every family to enjoy at the Family Fest.
SENIORS
There are a lot of fun,
relaxing activities in store for the seniors this August. The programs listed
below will recur throughout the entire month and will be held at the Tom Ison
Seniors and Veterans Center. Enrollment for all programs is ongoing. Pick any
of the activities that spark your interest and enroll today.
Belly Dancing Exercise Class
Belly dancing is known to
lower blood pressure, strengthen bones, reduce arthritis pains, decrease the
risk of cancer, and improve cardiovascular health. Best of all, it is something
that all ages can enjoy and appreciate. Stay fit and fabulous by joining the
classes held every Tuesday from 1:00PM to 2:00PM.
Cards (Liverpool Rummy)
Learn to play a variant of
the classic Contract Rummy. This would not only be a chance to enjoy the thrill
of a card game of luck and strategy, but also a good opportunity to mingle with
friends. Join the fun every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00AM to 3:00PM.
Chair Exercise
Exercise is always healthy
for the body, mind, and soul. Look and feel good by joining the chair exercises
held every Wednesday and Friday from 8:00AM to 9:00AM.
Crafts
Crafts are a great means of
relaxing, keeping your mind stimulated, and releasing your creativity. Join
classes every Thursday from 11:30AM to 2:00PM and enjoy a variety of crafts to
fuel the artist in you.
Dominos
If a simple game for relaxation
and entertainment appeals to you, then you should join in a good game of
Dominoes on Wednesdays from 9:00AM to 12:00PM. This is surely a good way to
enjoy a healthy competition.
Line Dancing
You do not need to be an
exceptional dancer to enjoy line dancing.
Just follow along a few simple steps and you are good to go. Dancing has
never been this fun and easy, so dance to the music on Tuesdays from 10:00AM to
11:00AM.
Luncheon
Bring a side dish to share
on August 18 from 12:30PM to 2:00PM and enjoy a relaxing afternoon of delicious
food and lots of mingling--all for just 50cents.
Sunday Bingo
Bingo is a great way to add
something exciting to a lazy Sunday afternoon. Doors open as early as 2:00PM,
but games will run from 3:00PM to 6:30PM. Interested participants should
prepare $16 minimum to play each game.
ENTERTAINMENT
Summer Movie Series
The Summer Movie Series
returns with Vintage Favorites on Thursdays and Cult Classics on Fridays.
Thursday Vintage Favorites brings us “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” on August 4 and
“Bringing Up Baby” on August 11. For Friday Cult Classics, we have “Chicago
(2002)” on August 5 and “Raising Arizona” on August 12. All movies will start
at 7PM. You can purchase tickets online or at the Garden Theatre Box Office at
$6 each, but a $1 service fee will be charged for online ticket sales.
U.S. Continental Pageant
The U.S. Continental Pageant
gives recognition to the strengths and achievements of the modern woman in the
21st century. You can get to see these inspirational women on August 6 at
7:00PM at the Garden Theater. Ticket prices range from $25 to $35.
MUSIC
King Guys Band in Concert
“The World’s Smallest Big
Band” comes to Winter Garden to perform some of the timeless hits of the 1940s,
recreating the music of legends such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Glenn
Miller, Benny Goodman, and many more. Catch their performance at the Garden
Theater on August 21 from 3:00PM to 5:00PM. Regular tickets cost $25 and a
discounted rate of $20 is given to students and seniors.
Fridays on the Plaza
There will always be good
music to enjoy at the Centennial Gazebo, West Plant Street. Delight in the
performances by local artists every Friday from 7:00PM to 9:00PM. This month,
Fridays on the Plaza will be featuring Mountain Brew on August 5, Keith Eaton
on August 12, and Layla Brisbois on August 19. Even the little ones can enjoy
dancing along to the music of these local entertainers.
SPORTS
Basketball Open Court for
All Ages
The Jim Beech Recreation
Center is open regularly for a basketball open court every Monday, Wednesday,
and Thursday from 6:30 PM to 10:00PM. This is a great way for individuals to
shoot some hoops and for families to play together for a fun sport.
Volleyball for Ages 18+
If you are aged 18 and
older, the Jim Beech Recreation Center invites you to join in a good game of
volleyball every Tuesday from 7:30PM to 10:00PM.
PERFORMING ARTS
ESOR Dance Ensemble
The ESOR Dance Ensemble
comes to the Garden Theater with their 2016 season of excellence, “I Will
Rejoice.” Enjoy a night of spectacular performances that will surely captivate
the hearts of the audience on August 13 at 7:00PM.
